Clive’s is the home of truly tasty organic “free from” foods – we make veggie pies in a wholemeal pastry, pasties in a lovely crisp shortcrust pastry, gluten free pies and cakes which taste amazing, and wholesome ready meals, made with lots of exciting fresh vegetables.

Everything we do is vegetarian (free from meat), free from all artificial flavours and preservatives and free from yeast. The majority of our products are now gluten free and nearly all are dairy and lactose free. Where we do use dairy – fresh organic mature cheddar in our cheese pie fillings; or eggs – fresh organic free range eggs in our luxury cakes, we insist in using Soil Association accredited suppliers to ensure the absolute best possible standards of animal welfare.

We are a true testament that ‘free from’ foods in no way have to compromise taste or flavour or conscience.

So who’s Clive and where did it all begin?

Clive started making vegetarian wholemeal pies nearly 25 years ago, from a small domestic kitchen on the edge of Dartmoor. He’s a bit of a legend in this part of Devon, but like all good pie-makers, he’s now retired. That where Sally and Chris Carson came onto the scene. We took over the business seven years ago. We’re still based in Buckfastleigh, in a converted woollen mill, and are still making pies and cakes with care, love and attention. The fundamental principles of fresh local organic ingredients, hand prepared in our own kitchen is the cornerstone of what we’re about. We don’t mass produce. Everything is hand made in small batches to ensure the best quality.

We’re lucky to be located in one of the most beautiful and luscious parts of the country – Dartmoor and the South Hams are both areas of outstanding natural beauty. We’re very aware of how lucky we are and thus take local environmental issues seriously. We do what we can to minimise our environmental impact through local sourcing of ingredients, waste recycling (tins, cardboard, plastic, film and vegetable peelings), using recyclable packaging and recently we installed a heat recovery unit to heat our hot water from the waste heat generated from our chillers.
